Ghxst: Peterborough’s Genre-Bending Artist Finding His True Sound

Emerging from Peterborough, Ontario, rising artist Ghxst is quickly gaining attention for his genre-blending sound and fearless creativity. Refusing to limit himself to one style, Ghxst creates music that moves fluidly between hyperpop, synthpop, emo, punk pop, and alternative influences, giving his work a versatile energy that shifts depending on the mood and emotion behind each track.

For Ghxst, music has always been a part of life. Growing up playing drums and guitar, he developed a strong musical foundation at a young age. But like many artists, his journey into vocals and songwriting came with its share of trial and error. Around the age of 13 or 14, he began experimenting with hip-hop, though he admits those early attempts were far from perfect.

“At the time I had no real plan,” he reflects. “I didn’t really know what I was doing.”

After stepping away from music for a period, Ghxst returned to it around 17 or 18 years old, this time with a deeper curiosity about the industry and a stronger desire to discover his own identity as an artist. He explored different sounds including trap, underground hip-hop, and rage, but something still felt incomplete.

It wasn’t until about a year and a half ago that everything started to click.

By revisiting the styles he grew up listening to—hyperpop, synthpop, electro pop, alternative rock, nu-metal, punk, and grunge-influenced emo sounds—Ghxst finally found the sonic direction that truly felt like home. Since embracing this sound, the response from listeners and supporters has been overwhelmingly positive.

His debut EP, #outofthisworld, available on all major streaming platforms, introduced fans to his evolving style. More recently, tracks like “GO,” which leans into hyperpop and electro influences, and “BYEBYE,” driven by synthpop energy, have helped build momentum and expand his audience.

Beyond the studio, Ghxst has been making his presence known on stage. He has performed across several Ontario cities, including Peterborough, Belleville, Toronto, Niagara Falls, and St. Catharines. Among those locations, Belleville stands out as a favorite.

“The energy there is amazing,” he says. “Everyone is always so supportive.”

Looking ahead, Ghxst has big ambitions. One of his dreams is to grow his fanbase enough to tour internationally, especially in Europe, which he describes as his dream travel destination.

But for Ghxst, success isn’t just measured in streams or stages. The journey itself has already brought meaningful accomplishments. Stepping into the spotlight helped him push beyond personal anxiety, connect with new people, and grow both creatively and mentally.

Collaboration has also become a major part of his artistic development. Working with other musicians has allowed him to expand his sound, improve his engineering skills, and learn how to translate raw emotion and real energy into music that listeners can feel.

At the core of Ghxst’s message is resilience and self-belief.

“If I had one message,” he says, “it would be to always stand on what you believe is right for you. Follow your passion and dreams and never let anyone put you down. You’ll know when you’re in the right place—you just have to keep pushing for it.”

With a growing catalog, an unmistakable sound, and a mindset built on perseverance, Ghxst is proving that finding your true voice can change everything.
